The PCC Chinese Music Ensemble was founded in 1997 by the current director, Cynthia Hsiang. As a regulary credited ensemble class offered by the PCC Performing and Communication Arts Division Music Department, the ensemble provides students an opportunity to learn, practice, and perform classical Chinese music. Besides concert performances every Fall and Spring semester, the group also participates in many community events.
Performance at 2008 Monterey Park Chinese New Year Festival | A Note from the Director... Dear friends, Our Fall concert on Nov. 17, 2007 was a great success. Our audience loved our performance and the variety of program selections. I would like to thank all of you for your hard work and support towards making our ensemble better every year. This year is the tenth anniversary of our ensemble. The ensemble class does not only open the door of Chinese music to hundreds of participants, but also gives our passion the oppurtunity towards the community. In the Fall concert, in addition to classic Chinese folk songs and favorites, we were proudly able to present two world premiere pieces composed by ensemble members and composers George Shaw and Robben Fenderson. We were also able to proudly host the American premiere of the Zheng trio "Misty Mountain and Stream." It is a wonderful semester. Keep up the great work and have fun! Sincerely, Cynthia Hsiang Dec. 2007 | For more information about this ensemble: Pasadena City College, Performing and Communication Arts Division Music Department (626) 585-7208 Spring Concert: May 17, 2008 8pm Harbeson Hall, Pasadena City College 1570 E.
